How the wizard scores destinations

Every destination on Retire Destinations is rated against the same six dimensions — the wizard ranks our 20+ cities by weighting these against your answers.

  1. Budget fitHow close your stated monthly pension budget is to a comfortable single (or couple) retiree budget in each city. A match within 10% scores highest; a budget below the local cost reduces the score.
  2. Climate matchMediterranean, tropical, mountain (eternal spring), or temperate. The destination's primary climate must match your pick.
  3. Lifestyle overlapCity, beach, mountain, rural or island. We weight overlap across your selections; choosing multiple options expands the candidate set.
  4. Priority weights (0-10)Your stated importance for healthcare, safety, retiree visa friendliness, English level and expat community size multiplies each destination's score on those dimensions.
  5. Region filterOptional. If you select specific regions, destinations outside are excluded. Leaving empty includes the world.
